But we can’t run away from or physically attack these problems! However, we no longer face the same threats in modern-day living.ĭespite this, our minds and bodies still work in the same way as our early ancestors, and we have the same reactions to our modern worries about paying the bills, work, and social situations. You may get irritable, have trouble sleeping, develop headaches, or have trouble getting on with work and planning for the future you might have problems having sex, and might lose self-confidence. With anxiety, in the longer term, you may have some of the above symptoms as well as a more nagging sense of fear. It makes your blood flow to the muscles, increases blood sugar, and gives you the mental ability to focus on the thing that your body perceives as a threat. These things occur because your body, sensing fear, is preparing you for an emergency. When anxiety holds you back from doing the things you want or need to do, it can also affect your health. It can prevent you from enjoying life, travelling, or even leaving the house to go to work or school. Ongoing anxiety can affect your ability to eat, sleep, or concentrate. How do we apply the Bible and the Gospel of Christ to the nature of this belief and to the nature of its impact or influence upon man in traditional Africa?ģ) What are the religious practices and behaviour that do accompany, support and reinforce (a) this belief and (b) feelings generated by this belief? How do we study and apply the Bible and the Gospel of Christ to all the various practices, attitudes, rituals, rites and ceremonies that traditional Africa has fundamentally developed from this belief? The application of the Bible and the Christian Gospel to this very religious belief must address it at its foundations and roots:ġ) What do traditional Africans feel about the pervasive and dominant presence of the mystical and mysterious powers and forces? The Bible and the Gospel of Christ must address this traditional religious core value and its dominant influence upon man in traditional Africa. The religious and social role and function of this belief must be thoroughly studied and understood. Christianity must recognise and study the theological basis of the traditional African belief in the existence of mystical and mysterious forces. This belief is very much reflected in the traditional religious practices and behaviour.Īs stated earlier, the belief in the impersonal (mystical) powers is dominant and pervasive among traditional Africans. The life of a traditional African with this belief in the impersonal powers is at the mercy of the benevolent or wicked users of the mystical powers at their disposal. The impersonal powers can be used for both good and evil. Mystical powers can be contagious by contact with objects carrying or mediating such powers. Mystical powers can be sent to specific destinations for an intended good or evil. Mystical and mysterious powers can be transmitted through certain object media or by pure spiritual means. Some specialists belief that mysterious powers imbedded in things or objects can be extracted for specific uses. The manifestation and the use of the impersonal powers are related to the practices of medicine men and women, diviners and seers who use natural objects, plants and animals for medicine, magic, charms and amulets. Some objects are said to be inherently more power induced or “imputed” than others, that is, they are more naturally endowed with powers than others are. The potency, efficacy and the durability of such “inhabited” impersonal powers varies from object to object. ![]() In African beliefs, the source of this impersonal or (mystical) mysterious power is not always known, but it is usually attributed to the activities of higher “mysterious” powers, whether personal or impersonal that either generates or deposits such powers in things or objects. This same power has been given various names, such as, mana, life force, vital force, life essence and dynamism. This impersonal power is what Edwin Smith called mysterium tremendum. The whole of creation, nature and all things and objects are consumed with this impersonal power. The belief in the impersonal (mystical) power is dominant and pervasive in traditional African religious thought. What is the influence and impact of this dominant religious belief in impersonal and mystical powers upon the whole of traditional African life? The Bible and Christian theology have to address this foundational and dominant influence and impact upon the traditional African life. Any meaningful and effective Christian approach to the traditional religions must begin from here.ġ. These foundational religious beliefs are essential to our theological interpretation and analysis of the traditional religions. Alcohol can have a similar effect but also cause cirrhosis of the liver, enlarging the spleen and causing platelets to build up. Medicines and alcohol: Over-the-counter painkillers and certain antibiotics can slow platelet production while being used, causing drug-induced thrombocytopenia.Aplastic anemia: Although uncommon, this disorder where blood production in the bone marrow stops is severe.Viruses: Certain contagious viruses like chickenpox, mono and rubella can temporarily lower your platelet count.Cancer treatments that are not localized to tumors, such as chemotherapy and radiation, also damage these cells. Cancer: Leukemia, lymphoma and cancers that spread to the bone marrow can slow platelet production.Though genetic conditions can lead to thrombocytopenia, there is often an underlying health condition or lifestyle factor that causes the issue: Low platelet count can occur when the body fails to produce enough platelets and destroys the platelets before being used or stores too many in the spleen. What causes thrombocytopenia and how is it diagnosed? A count below 150,000 indicates a serious condition known as thrombocytopenia. To be effective, platelets need to number between 150,000 to 450,000 per microliter of blood for an adult. Maintaining a healthy range of platelets is critical, as too high or too low a count can result in serious medical conditions. They continue secreting proteins to create a seal when a blood vessel breaks, stemming from external or internal bleeding. Platelets are composed of particular proteins that allow them to bind to each other and with blood vessel linings. Megakaryocytes, large bone marrow cells, fragment as they develop, resulting in platelets released into the blood. ![]() Like most blood cells, platelets are formed in bone marrow. These cell fragments are only one-fifth of a red blood cell size and constitute only a small portion of overall blood volume. Platelets are one of the primary blood components, whose main function is to prevent bleeding through clotting. Caused by these specific conditions and others, thrombocytopenia is the most common and broadest of all platelet-related disorders. Genetic problems and faulty antibodies can lead to small clotting issues in the body, as with thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA), or platelet damage, as with complement-mediated TMA. Too high a platelet count can mean an increased risk of blood clots while too few can cause several diseases. 12/5/2023 0 Comments Coffee break zedsSuggest a correction in the comments below.
